Catfishers have a very clever way of fooling someone, that includes fake profiles. It"s so funny how someone would go as far as to find perfect pictures for their profile, hunny i think that is so much work and waste of data. You can identify a catfisher by how they constantly refuse to Skype but prefer talking over the phone . The pictures they post are inconsistent, whenever you ask to meet, they come up with endless excuses like, how they work endless hours and the victim always believes what the catfisher says. Catfishers tend to want sympathy, by giving details about their childhood traumas that contributed to their current relational issues. And as a victim you become a sucker for their vulnerability as maybe you have had similar issues, come on we all have issues. Some catfishers aren't even apologetic about the emotional trauma they cause. Utilize video talk benefit.

Thank you for great insights on catfishing. I didnt even tnat word exists honeztly. Finding love is complicated. How can I protect myself then? Should I also create a fake profile when online so that they don't know who I amean?

To answer your question on creating a fake profile, i think its not the right thing to do because you are hurting someone out there. Usually victims of catfish, put up their correct details on dating sites but fall victims of people who are just too careless about other people's emotions. Hence it is important for you to make sure that the person you are in contact with, you are able to video chat. That way you are ware of whom you are talking to instead of just saying pictures and receiving phone calls.

Have you watched the Tv show called catfish on MTV. This show is just another platform where victims tell their story and confront the catfishers. And all of them are just looking for love.

ReplyDeleteHello Lindo, thank you. Well their various ways you can protect yourself from being catfished, for example as per my tips in the blog, you can use video call services like Skype. So that you are aware of the person you are communicating with. Don't give out your personal information e.g your banking details, before you know it all your money will be gone. So it is important you are aware of these things and trust your instincts if you suspect anything fishy.

ReplyDeleteHey Zinhle, most of the victims that have been catfished have given out their personal information, like banking details which is so dangerous because you could lose everything you worked really hard for,because of love. And we can't blame these victims because maybe, they were unaware that "catfishing" exists.
